Hams and Jams

About 30 minutes from the McEachern’s farm, along I-40 is the Loveless Café. We purposely woke up early and got a start on the day so that we could have breakfast there on our way to Memphis. Natalie had been there before and was so excited to show it to us. It’s a cute and quirky little place, with a restaurant, gift shop and lots of other activities, almost like a roadside carnival. So much was happening at once, it was a lot to take in so early in the morning - kids were having their faces painted, people crowded the gift shop, and families were playing corn hole on a grass strip right off the parking lot. There was even a little bluegrass band set up beneath the shade of a big tree – a very festive atmosphere for a Saturday morning.
We had to wait 40 min for a table, which isn’t really our style when we’re on the move, but we decided it was worth it. While we waited, we visited the gift shop and bought some jam. We also checked out the many photos of the famous visitors they’ve served over the years, everyone from 80’s daytime soap opera stars to Minnie Pearl and Willard Scott. Their slogan is “you don’t have to be famous to eat here”, which was good news for us since by the time it was our turn we were really hungry! The food was delicious. We had a true southern-style breakfast made up of homemade warm biscuits, pulled pork bbq, ham, eggs and cheese grits. We made sure to get a family photo by the iconic sign and then, you guessed it….we hit the road once again.
